How did women deal with having to do 'The men's work'?
By 1917 munitions factories that employed women workers, produced 80% of the weaponries used by the British Army. They had to handle TNT powder which caused their skin to turn yellow, these women risked their lives working with poisonous substances without proper protective clothing or safety measures. Around 400 women died from overexposure to TNT during WWI.
HOW DID WOMEN DEAL WITH THE WORK THAT "MEN ARE SUPPOSED TO DO'?
Many men thought that women couldn’t handle all the work that was meant for ‘the men’ that’s why they were so against it, but in the end the woman helped so much with the war effort that they realised women can handle tough challenges. And with the more work that women did then they gained more skills and better experiences, therefore being able to better accomplish that job. |
